4 Crucially Important Content Development Strategies
This is one of the most important articles I have created only second to 7 Essential Steps to Launch an Online Business. In fact I might go as far to say it is the 8th step. If you don’t read carefully and develop this strategy you are doomed!
I can share a million online business ideas with you but the fact remains that it means nothing without a content strategy for your blog. Your content strategy creates multiple opportunities to sell….without selling.
I am going to introduce you to the 4 most important P’s in solidifying your content development strategies. But first lets get into WHY you are business blogging.
If your blogging for business you should be strategically posting to
- Build your Credibility
- Build Relationships
- Build better Partnerships
- Build more Sales
As long as you build the first 2 you will have no problem generating the last 2. These are the ONLY reasons you should be business blogging. It’s all about your readers period.
Your readers don’t care about whats going on with you as much as whats in it for them. I think 70% plus of the bloggers get this backwards (me included) . And if your lucky you can discover the problem and corrected it like I did.
Sure I will continue to have fun quotes by Darren Scott Monroe. Because it is a great way to publicly copyright and share some ideologies. But beyond that my focus is on helping you build your business with my online business ideas.
The 4 most important P’s in content development
1. Product (this includes service also) remember your in business blogging is to generate sales. Musicians miss this all the time as they kill themselves trying to get radio airplay and yet have nothing to sell. I know this is a duh comment but if you have nothing to sell you wont make money. Your product can be either a self made product, affiliate product or both. Imagine having a store in a mall and thousands show up to your store on a Saturday afternoon then walk right out. You haven’t sold them anything because you have nothing.
Any posts / articles you write need to be focused on linking to a produce or service. Yes in some cases you are posting a direct sell. But in most cases you have a soft sell.
Direct Selling through your Blog Content
A direct sell is a post like this. Where I am talking directly about the product in the article. The big mistake bloggers make is getting too direct. Imagine that friend who always calls to help you. Will you answer 90% of the time or more? Sure! What about the friend that always wants to borrow money or needs help? Will you answer 90% of the time or more? Not likely. Direct sells are great like I point out in 7 Reasons to Shut up and Sell. But use them in moderation.
Soft or Passive Selling through your Blog Content
A soft passive sell is a post like this. Where I am talking about document marketing. I am however also explaining the best premium strategy to use is through my hot Scribd guide (pronounced scribbd like ad libbed). There are tons of examples I am going to share in the coming days because my guide really works.
2. Pillar: This is the foundational basis in which all of your other content follows. Lets say your blog is about Honda repair in the USA for Honda’s made in the 1990s. The reason you are going for specifics is found in the 1st secret of this post.Your pillar article or post could be 7 Foundational Steps to Repairing your Engine. A pillar article is the article that will be referenced many times in future articles. That’s because you need that article before you make future ones. This very article your reading is a perfect example of a pillar article. All followup articles will be pointing back to this one. Pillar articles are like the chapter intro in a book.
3. Post: This is a more specific article that links to your pillar content. An example would be if our Honda bloggers pillar content was 7 Foundational Steps to Repairing your Engine. Well your more detailed post would be How to Replace a Timebelt for a 93 Honda EX. Within that article I would reference information from the pillar engine article by linking to it usually within the first few sentences.
What I am essentially doing is offering more details. The really brilliant part is that you can reference your product which in this case might be a how to video and manual. The pillar and posts could be in the form of a direct and soft sell.
Subconsciously what you are doing is preselling your audience via pillars and posts by
- Build your Credibility
- Build Relationships
Sound familiar? Your educating your readers on how to solve their problems.
4. Presell: this involves everything from traditional email list building to sharing a viral ebook that is PACKED with free content. The presell is connected extensively to the other 3 P’s. Because the presell strategy transitions visitors to potential customers. This happens both directly and indirectly.
