facebook-art*Note I use the word “Facebook Nazi’s” from the term used among many users of Facebook in regard to their stringent rules. Also in reference to the Soup Nazi character from the hit TV show Seinfeld.

If you have a Facebook account you may have noticed some weird emails. Someone is hacking into Facebook profiles and changing the email access to send out SPAM porn like emails. Don’t unfollow the profile, just report the email FB already knows what it is. This should remind everyone with a Myspace of the SPAM emails being sent as you read this.

So what good is Facebook cracking down on us honest people if their protection methods can’t keep SPAM people from receiving these Myspace like emails asking them to view porn? Reminds me of a security guard at Walmart designed to protect the country by himself. Though it is not Facebooks fault for the SPAM. I certainly hope they are addressing the issue.Use some of those famous tactics that has made their security methods infamous.

How do you avoid being hacked by Facebook?

No way to avoid it but at least decrease the probability

  1. Change your password as soon as you are done reading this article.
  2. DON’T use a password you have used anywhere else.
  3. Alert other friends (bookmark here if needed).
  4. Report any suspicious emails in your inbox “requesting you to join a friend on Facebook” especially if it was sent to your NON Facebook email. This email will be a little different from the usual Friend requests.

Please know that I am not referring to anyone in particular or directly. But if this seems like you then I strongly suggest you reconsider your thoughts.

Have you met this person before?

I have 20,000 friends / followers so I MUST be important

Once upon a time there was a fool. Foolish in a nice funny humorous way but little more in the form of substance than a fool. The fool that thought that if he had 20,000 or more people on a social network it could make them look like less than a fool. In fact that it could make him look important. That that number equated success and business. And they thought that number which out numbered lesser so called media professionals that it would make them look important. And possibly make them money.

So the fool moves aimlessly through out social medias. This is the guy with 50 social media accounts their website and mastery in NONE. This is the guy who has the fancy quotes and criticisms for others but cane barely afford web access to communicate. This is the guy who has NO PRODUCTS or product line to sell but every intention on making one.

Where’s the BEEF? Value?

I have come across some interesting characters. People who like to compete with their followings (OH look at me I got 70,000 followers I am so important) or like to boast their coolness to their “friends” on social medias. But in actuality with the exception of a decent quote here and there they are NOT providing any value. Sure it’s cool to be at social media as if its a party. In fact I highly suggest you approach it in that manner. But no one wants to be with a party guy ALL the time.

Identify the fools in your networks and decided to NEVER compete with them only create, market, and over deliver value for yourself. Like the Jerry Springer TV Show. Entertaining, yet lacks the substantial value. IN time time the hype dies, the drama is gone and all that is left…. is the fool and their foolishness.

How do you CHANGE from being a fool if I have identified you in this article?

  1. Began to post sustaining contributions instead of short quick quotes.
  2. Create products beyond the affiliate world.
  3. Realize and analyze your network. You are who you attract. It’s not about the network it’s about the relationships and your brand that is built.

The greatest fool is the one that doesn’t change!

facebook-artSo here I am on Facebook running my newly created fan page for 4DaSoul.com my soul site. Suddenly I notice a ad that caught my attention to advertise on Facebook. Now keep in mind I am a organic marketer who does not believe in PPC (Pay Per Click) or advertising. I use natural ways to gain traffic. So its a rare occasion when I am looking at advertising. But if something interests me or catches my curiosity I click through.

Below is the message I received. The issue I had was I have never NEVER done ANY advertising on Facebook before. So I am amazed to see this.

facebookadvertising

Wow so you mean to tell me you disabled my account and said I violated a terms of server blah blah blah and I have never used your service? Hmm how likely am I to use it now? How many millions of others have the same issue? You think we will fight it out? Or go elsewhere? I think you know the answer. Especially since Facebook has rumored “conversion issues.”

Facebook is a little over protective. In fact there are several users that have coined the phrase “Facebook Nazi” after the infamous “Soup Nazi” character from the hit TV show Seinfeld.

“Facebook Could Be Losing Billions

So if I had this issue it is very likely that another say 50,000 people (low balling the number) could be having the same issue. If we each wanted to spend say $100 US  Dollars that would mean that FB is loosing $5million daily.

50k FB accounts X $100 budget = $5,000,000 X 30 days = $150 Million lost monthly and $1.8 Billion yearly.

I know without the numbers I could be either to high or low. But for every one issue on a Facebook account its a high probability with over 100 million users that there are at least tens of thousands experiencing the same thing.

“The Turn off Factor”

And this doesn’t include the turnoff factor. This turns many off from ever spending money with Facebook.  So factor in the lose of a lifetime prospect and it is a higher probability that they are losing billions.

Twitter ignores their customers and makes changes to create billion dollar mistakes. Facebook on the other hand b**** slaps their customers in the face while they have their credit cards in hands. Smart? I think KNOW not.

Facebook just launched vanity URLs which means you have a chance (or had a chance if taken) to get a url like this www.facebook.com/darrenmonroe

Why Does This Matter?

The big deal? Facebook being a large authority site could get your name in the higher ranking with Google/ Bing. So there is the hype, and actually that’s it nothing more. I don’t see the big deal because Facebook is actually behind as far as social sites go for this feature. Linkedin had vanity links for some time. It’s Facebook and their guarded policies that kept this from making this happen. The bigger you grow the slower you can possibly get. Ahem “MySpace” .

I really like blogger Chris Brogans spin on the whole URL Facebook thing. He changed his vanity not to www.facebook.com/chrisbrogan but www.facebook.com/dotchrisbrogan. And has been catching hell for it for days LOL!Look at his intro comment below.

“Yes, search marketers and SEO professionals everywhere just wrote me off.”

I am not advising you to follow SEO (Search Engine Optimization) or go against it. I think you should follow your thoughts. Now that you know the SEO advantages you make the call. But remember before you begin to criticize someone because they didn’t follow the high and mighty SEO rules remember something…..   Entrepreneurs follow their own set of rules. Think about it, if you were into following what other people say you sure as hell shouldn’t be reading THIS site LOL!

You have 3 options

1. Either follow the use of your name to the Facebook Vanity URL

2. Add your own creative creation

3. Tell Facebook to go to blazes and keep your URL as it is.

Its not the Link its the content and consistency inside.

Twitter tested a new system with replies that you can read more about that here at Read Write Web. This may be twitters greatest challenge and possible achilles heel. Especially if they don’t start listening to their users before they execute new interfaces and policies. Remember what I said in my articles about Some Point and One Day Marketing? The minute your idea of value differs from your customers is the hour you lose business. Every hour you don’t change that difference secures a day of failure. Twitter must learn from their failures. Failure in twitter land is NOT listening , surveying or even asking your 10 million users their thoughts on changes that both affect and effect them.

I am amazed. I believe in the opportunities of change as well. But this is a really dangerous way to test your site, credibility, and money. Especially when you haven’t been bought out and have no monetization. Plus their retention rates are sinking.

Its bad enough that twitter management was criticized for being social media whores when they allowed celebrities to disingenuously gain millions of followers though first time sign ups. Twitter management has to realize that Ashton Kutcher, Oprah and yes even iamdiddy (Sean Combs) are NOT the reason they are receiving  billion dollar offers.

Its the young students who talks to their friends at night about school and shares links. Its the work at home mom who is trying to support her family and depends on twitter to build her business. Its the tech geek who has shared a ton of open source resources for FREE in the hope that he or she will get more freelance business. Its people like @Hetty4Christ who has had several brain surgeries and talks on twitter to feel better. The majority of users are actual people on twitter.

These are the people twitter needs to ask before they institute any changes that relate to users. At least do a survey. Another pattern I have noticed is that they never seem to post any of these changes on their Twitter status update area. So not only don’t you (twitter management) care about what other people think but you also could care less if they discover it?

What we are witnessing is a billion dollar mistake. Forget the Alamo twitter needs to remember the internet where todays hit is tomorrow memory. Taking your users for granted is like taking the blood pumping in their veins for granted.

Game up or game over.
