21 Entrepreneurial Idea’s for Teens

Share

teensTeens have the greatest opportunity to benefit as online entrepreneurs. Their market is already tech savvy and ready to launch online business ideas immediately . Plus they have never known a world without the Internet. So why not encourage and consult them to success? Motivational speaker and hit author of The Secret Bob Proctor says that the worst thing you could do is work for a living. The teen Y generations understands that better than any other generation. The idea is not to work but to create value and leverage that for money. A perfect example of course is Twitter, YouTube, facebook, and MySpace. The following are idea’s for Teens and if you are really a hungry entrepreneur you could steal them for yourself. Only this article is copyrightable. Any idea’s shared you are free to use for your own.

  1. Open Source development companies for Teens! THANK GOD FOR OPEN SOURCE!! Open source is one of the sartest online business ideas ever. We have to make sure we fund Teens early! So we can pass the touch continually through generations. Angel investors need to partner with USA Junior Achievement and any other active organizations to make sure we have more kids trained in this! So they can start the next Wordpress, Google, Youtube, etc.
  2. Create a facebook meets teacher grading site run by Teens to rate teachers across the USA. Only students are allowed to  rate. Also add a video blog function. Here students could access videos of other students in each class. That  way they can get a semester long idea of what any given students class experience was like. So that way they can decided if they want to sign-up for that class.
  3. Mastermind group for Teens. This is a no brainer but Teens working together have the greatest advantage than any other generation. Work together to develop online business  ideas, share resources. Teens are very powerful and our countries greatest resource. Group together as business or just as business people.
  4. Teen Angel investors groups. I think there are some great opportunities for this. But do it differently. I am saying create a board study AI group mentored by 20 something Angel Investors.
  5. Begin writing and selling your own ebooks and how to manuals. I know some of you may think “who is going to take me seriously??” But the truth si and even the 40+ crowd has to admit is that if there is any generation that could decipher things quickly its the teen generation. Plus entrepreneurship online is a great advantage because you have anonymity. On the Internet it doesn’t matter what your age, ethnicity or background. The only thing that matters is what you know and how well you know it.
  6. Offer FREE independent music for Teen: This would involve music acts submitting music for FREE. The listeners who like and favor a band could either send a donation or sponsor a fundraiser for that band with all of their friends. Also like facebook they could send special ecards and other little digital trinkets to their friends for say a dollar.
  7. A Teen sex site: Now before you go off parents LOL I am talking about a strictly teen site for Teens to talk about sex. Could have a great relationship with the watchdog groups to make sure no predators are creeping in. Mastermind group for 1000 entrepreneurs to create a million each? They listen to their peers so sharing some REAL education would be one of the smartest online business ideas out there. Plus it will help create a more educational platform. Hey its already out there on the web (er ah facebook sex?) why not create a real non parent run platform to discuss?
  8. Create a virtual world for teen entrepreneurs sponsored by Junior Achievement. JA could pay / sponsor but Teens would run and create virtual (some real platform) business. They could also train online and be in LIVE online programs and web conferences with say Mark Zuckerberg from facebook.
  9. Create a high school sports version meets YouTube: they could submit their favorite games.
  10. Create a website for Ugly teachers! On of my favorite online business ideas in this series is to submit your ugliest school staff and other students can rate. Hey if your an adult reading this I know what your thinking but hey think about the crazy things we did as Teens. LOL! I also know there will be a litigation issue but hey no guts no glory! Lets ask the billionaire YouTube founders if they would have stopped their business. LOL! PS facebook was sued because of the students pics that were on their site in its early years. Mark seems to be still in business from what I see. No risk no reward. PS uglyteacher.com is available! PS I am NOT LIABLE FOR ANYONE USING THIS! LOL
  11. A snack vending business. The requirement would be that they get the local schools businesses.
  12. Male teen membership program site for picking up girls run by Teens. This would be a great video advice site for picking girls, asking out girls . The best places to see girls.
  13. Babysitting membership program site for Teens interested in starting their own babysitting service in their local area.
  14. Fashion websites galore!: Teens are into fashion like people are into breathing so this is one of those online business ideas that go hand in hand. LOL! So why not start a variety of different sites on different types of clothing? A major jeans sale or shoes, a celebrities outfits etc. But again its run by Teens.
  15. Create  a fashion line for young virgin Christians: Could sell through Cafepress.com and at christian conventions.
  16. Create a Apps company for almost anything: but focus on  iphone apps ranging from cools stuff, diaries, personalized stuff etc. But you can almost transfer to anything else as well. The idea is that you are creating things for current mobile applications.
  17. Create Teen Alert website for molesters or potential stalkers. This is a site for Teens by Teens. Would be a FREE info submittal membership site. There may be a litigation issue given that this model is based on reporting potential people  and incidents anonymously. But I say the safer the better. You could sell security devices, manuals, and other associated affiliate things.
  18. Custom School mobile accessories: Teens could sell mobile accessories that are customized with the logo or look of their school. Like phone covers etc.
  19. Create a 3rd party twitter sites: for Teens to view only from their phones. They could create twitter like messages and add pics etc.
  20. Mashup.com for Teens: cover a mashup of teen related stuff they care about and Teens should start this. This is one of those online business ideas that is already there and waiting for the right person to take advantage of it.
  21. A Car Dealership: OK I know Teens cant own the company directly but wouldn’t be great if they had a sales force for Teens by Teens? Car dealerships are you listening?

What an excellent post, Darren. I am going to trackback to it most definitely.

In regards to #1, I understand you wanted to put the concept out there , but let me just say there are other players out there besides Junior Achievement. We have NFTE which actually focuses on entrepreneurship education in low-income neighborhoods, then there is Decca, FBLA, Young and Successful Network, Young Entrepreneur Society, EO, Jumpstart, Texas Business Alliance, Youth Venture, International Biz Kids, Center for Financial Education (bank for kids), The Secure Student and a lot of other organizations out there that do a lot of interconnected work for Teens that includes everything from leadership to financial literacy.

As a matter of fact, let me just get on somebody’s radar and get the controversy started early this morning. Everything that starts at that top doesn’t necessarily funnel down. All these organizations need to retain their respective identities in their respective communities.

An even better thing to do is to go chat it up with Dr. Cathy Ashmore at the Consortium for Entrepreneurship Education and see how we can work with local economic development offices and engage non profits to build a micro-fund for experimental teen businesses. And let’s not forget about our friends abroad. Teens out of the UK are really on the up and up these days. They are contacting me with some really phresh baked 21st century business concepts. Basically I want to see everybody involved (so am I the ultimate social entrepreneur? lol).

Bottom line, there are a lot of progressive businesses out there helping youth and young entrepreneurs but unfortunately they don’t have the budget “yet” to get their voice out there in scale. We need a better way to distribute those funds and bring awareness and growth to all these community based groups. Needless to say, great post.

Great ideas Darren. Now if only I could convince my teen! Unfortunately, she is not nearly as big as a net-geek as I am!

Darren June 14, 2009

Shonika I had to wait sometime before I get a chance to respond this is one of the BEST comments I have ever had to my blog! I love your site and what your doing! Now allow me to dive into your comment especially at the end. Its seems to me you are still focusing on traditional funding. The funding of today is far from traditional. Teens don’t need major funding to run a business online which is my focus. For less than the cost of their gym shoes they can create a business and begin to start laying groundwork for monetization, development, and traffic.

The idea of this post was to create some think outside the box opportunities. Most if not all of my suggestions (21 idea’s) need next to nothing to launch. No excuses for developing these un claimed idea’s. Whether it is JA or anyone frankly they would be more of a “advising partner” than anything.

The essence of these idea’s ARE the idea’s not the people, companies or partners involved.

Again thank you for your great post! Keep them coming! Great site!

Appeal to her interest in money Danielle. The thought of independence is the key. What teen doesn’t want that?
Thanks so much for your reply.

Hi Darren:

I’m emailing this to my pre-teen now. I was so delighted when he came home from school one day and told me they had made a podcast in class.

Additionally at his award ceremony this year the Principal was smart enough to tell all the children that when they grow up it will be so different than what their parents are working now and he advised the kids that most of them will be working jobs that aren’t even created yet and that no one has even thought of so they should be aware of opportunity.

This post will fit in nicely with what the Principal told them.

As a matter of fact I think when I send him this link and he reads it I will even show him how to post a comment on here as well!

You are an amazing individual with an endless stream of ideas…..maybe you can write a post on how you come up with all these brilliant ideas and where you find your inspiration.

More or or less and believe it or not I do outsource a fair amount of my own admin work to other lesser priced VA’s! It’s all about leveraging time!
