Perry Belcher Quits

Share

Iperrybelcherquits copyn a surprise today Perry announced that he was no longer going to sell courses or train on the Internet. Plus he has dropped over 100,000 followers on twitter! Perry has been one of the most controversial figures to appear online in the last two years. His unfortunate arrest and subsequent lost of his home caused him to be one of the hottest topics across Internet forums, social media, and blogs. Perry now says he is taking his products and info off of the market and stopping all training. His reasoning for this is that he want s to spend more time with his family and that he has safety concerns for them. As I made very clear in my first article about Perry Belcher I don’t think anyone deserves to have their family threatened. That is ridiculous. Perrys kids have done nothing to deserve that and that is absolutely uncalled for and insane…..if true.

Perrys opponents are saying that it was a violation of his parole which you can download below.

However he left a hint that he is still going to be around in the following way

I remembered that it’s much more fun and profitable to be a marketer than it is to teach internet marketing…a truth that someone had to hit me over the head to help me remember.

When I did a story on Perry Belcher a few months back it caused a big %@#$ storm. But it had to be written. My clients were asking about him as well and if I would promote his social media course.  My end comment in that story read:

Is Perry Belcher the a social media scam artists? That remains to be seen. And that will depend on the feedback from his customers because time tells all truths. We are in one of the most interesting era’s for online entrepreneurship so it will be interesting to see if Perry Belchers reputation either flourishes or withers. The ball is in your court Perry. In time how will you be known? As an all star fundamental player or the king of technical fouls? I will take a quote from the film Carlito’s Way and mega rapper Jay Z “The Streets are Watching.”

The end part is interesting because Jay=Z just released his 3rd album after he claimed he was quitting hmmmm. Also interesting side note Ryan Deiss Perrys buddy hasn’t tweeted in almost a month. I think Perry dropping his  100,000 twitter friends was extreme and he could have handled that differently while still showing attention to his family. I spoke about those options in the audio on this page.

Will Perry be back? Maybe but again whether you are in the game or not know that your name is your name and time tells all truths.

Today’s news has been met with some interesting reactions from his opponents.

I think it is crazy if in fact it is true that someone would threaten his family. Thanks Dean for the comment Mr Killer Bunny man :)

Darren ::

I would agree with you that threatening someone’s family {or anyone else for that matter} is a total punk move.

However :: that’s not what happened to Perry. I happen to know the inside details of Perry’s hasty exit … and it has ZERO to do with his family being threatened. It’s just a flat lie … and a red herring that Perry put out there to make himself sound like a victim/hero. Lame.

PS :: I read your original post about Perry back when you wrote it … and it was appreciated.

Droid out.

Darren Monroe October 3, 2009

Thank you Droid I appreciate your comment and compliment. I read your post as well and know you have some very strong opinions about Perry. However if it is a lie why not cite your facts? In the first post about Perry if you noticed I didn’t say anything negative I only cited the negative stuff via court records.

What is the lie?
What is the red herring?
I think we would all like to know.
Tell you what even if you contact me privately via email and cited and confirmed facts of this being some sort of sham. I could at least come back here and confirm update without you divulging your sources publicly is that fair?

It’s a lie that he’s quitting because his “family has been threatened and he’s not feeling safe.” He implies {by not stating the contrary} that those threats have come from me … but I have done no such thing {and never would}. His social media accounts were dumped at my insistence … and it had NOTHING to do with threats. His parole violations were obvious … had he not complied with my demands … I’m quite certain he would have been incarcerated. But he did comply :: so I’m going to back off and not lobby the government agencies concerned to take action. I hope he cleans up his act and goes on to great things in some area other than internet marketing.

Hey Darren:

After all the time we have been friends on social media sites I finally land on your blog! And via Google, my friend. lol

What a sweet collection of info you got going here.

About the matter at hand: I had no idea perry quit until tonight.

I do want to add that him deleting his 100,000 followers wasn’t such a big deal because 10,000 of those followers are his spambots and 40 to 50,000 of the rest are other peoples spambots. ;-)

People like Perry build these huge followings by paying virtual assistants overseas to follow and unfollow all the top twitter users (Mostly top marketing users).

Here is how it works: Virtual assistant (VA) follows a BIG NAME. If a regular twitter user comes along ( it’s usually just another bot! ) and goes to follow the people following the BIG NAME they will see the clients (perry or another) picture at the top of the list. As new people follow the BIG NAME their picture is pushed further away from the beginning, hence the reason they have to unfollow and then follow back. Day after day. OVER AND OVER FOREVER.

Now picture doing this to the accounts of say 1,000 of the top marketing names on Twitter. Really easy to build a list of close to 100,000 that way.

Sorry I rambled. Not sure if it’s clear. Kind of hard to explain via text. lol

Hope to chat with you soon, Darren.

Brian thanks for finally coming by! LOL! And thanks for your comment and insight. However that theory is an old one. Initially it may have worked bu that technical is not effective today. Here is how I know.

3 Months ago a team and myself tested it out call it the looking for the Twitter Loch Ness monster sort of thing.
That doesn’t work nearly as well as people think. The real answer is following talking with people, and other though seemingly simple / ethical methods.

I am unaware of his violations and have asked Mike at http://mikeyounglaw.com/ to chime in on that as I am not a attorney. I just reread the probation info but am unaware if in fact Perry has violated any of these conditions.

Mike Young, Esq. October 3, 2009

Darren,

The only opinions that really matter on this issue are those of Perry Belcher’s probation officer and that of the judge who would hold a hearing on the issue to determine if a violation has occurred.

If I were the probation officer or the judge, here is what I would look at in Belcher’s Special Conditions of Probation:

1. “Mr. Belcher may apply to transfer his probation to another state if he obtains employment in that state.”

Belcher moved from TN to TX to work in Austin. Was he an employee? That’s certainly not how things were portrayed during launches. If so, did he own any of the content or lists created or were they owned by his employer?

2. “Agree to report the following information on a quarterly basis:” (1) businesses he owns, (2) partially owns, (3) operates, (4) websites he owns or operates, and (5) names of his affiliates including the websites, business names, and business owners. This information must be provided “if he receives any financial benefit from any web site design work, work as a consultant, or any item or service advertised, marketed or sold in any form.”

Did Belcher fully disclose this information?

3. “Agree to abstain from false or misleading marketing or sales tactics.”

Were any earnings claims accurate? Was his role (employee, consultant, etc.) properly disclosed when marketing himself as a guru? Did he use false scarcity for digital download products? Were number of Twitter followers misleading because of fake accounts and other deceptive list building to boost numbers? Did he do the work claimed or was it done by others (outsourced)? If Belcher still owns or operates the hot dog vending and other sites using pen names, is the sales content misleading (e.g. how much can be earned as a hot dog vendor and Belcher’s experience as a hot dog vendor)?

4. “Agree to abstain from publishing articles, books, web logs (blogs) or web sites under any pen name or alias.”

What about the hot dog vending and other sites? Does Belcher still own and operate them under pseudonyms?

5. “Agree to abstain from coaching training or providing educational programs to any person(s) or entities that engage in false or misleading marketing or sales tactics.”

Has he provided such training or programs?

6. “Mr. Belcher must also abstain from coaching, training or providing educational programs that encourage others to engage in false or misleading marketing or sales tactics. If Mr. Belcher engages in these activities and later discovers that the person or business is engaging in false or misleading marketing or sales tactics, he must report the false or misleading activities to his probation officer and cooperate with law enforcement to curtail or eliminate those activities.”

Has this occurred, including full disclosure and cooperating with law enforcement?

7. “Agree to forfeit all web page addresses, web sites, web domain registrations and web trademarks related to businesses owned or operated by Mr. Belcher…”

What about the hot dog vending and other sites operated under pen names? Does he still own them? Were they sold prior to the plea deal? Although the probation provision lists Selmedica and Increase Media as examples, the forfeiture provision was for all of his websites, “including but not limited to” sites for those two companies.

In short, these are the things that the probation officer and the judge would be looking at given what has occurred since the plea deal was made.

Best wishes,

-Mike

John October 3, 2009

Mike Young is right on the money. And he was being very tactful, not pointing the finger, but indicating the questions that could be VERY revealing if asked.

On at least one of perry’s (recent) sites, he did in FACT use the pen name “Perry Marks.” That appears to be a parole violation. He is prohibited from using pseudonyms. Also, on several of his sites, he indicated he is actively in the hot dog and ice cream businesses, and there are implied income figures referenced. Again, I believe this falls under the “misleading” prohibition in his parole terms. If people are buying these materials with the idea that he is an active authority, then they are being mislead. It is really that simple.

Those are just a few examples. There are more. You can also look at how he accumulated a lot of twitter followers using various automation tactics, how he taught people to take shortcuts to acquire followers, and other tactics that he used. Again, as Mike indicated, he is prohibited from using false or misleading tactics or training others to do the same.

You don’t need any inside knowledge of Belcher to find a lot to be concerned about. I’ve looked at most of his sites, watched some of his webinars, and read his probation terms. I have no doubt he was pushing the envelope in many ways. Some of it is is incredibly obvious, and I’m surprised he has been so bold given that he is on strict probation terms.

I am convinced that the reason he is “quitting marketing training” is to lay low and avoid the possibility of losing his probation. Too many people were starting to shine the light on how he has been operating.

Belcher is charismatic and has a certain charm to him. That is one reason why so many people fail to see him for what he is: a slick, convicted felon.

You must remember that Belcher was convicted for scamming people for many YEARS. He did not stop scamming until AFTER he was caught. That means the only reason he stopped was BECAUSE he was caught. Considering that, and how he’s operated over the past year (compared to his probation terms), I find it hard to believe he’s even remotely a “changed” man.

John, thank you for your time to comment. But sir you seem very angry over this. Plus you haven’t left a full name. You seem very emotionally attached to this. I am not. My original goal in this and the previous article was to discuss this from a professional and legal perspective thus I asked for Mike’s perspective as an attorney.

John I appreciate ALL who genuinely take the time to comment on my blog. However I think the lack of full name and disclosure of your site plus the anger leads me to suggest that maybe you not put that much energy into Perry or anyone else. Instead focus on what matters most to you sir. Things that will create greatness to you and help you prosper. Again my approach was from a professional and legal perspective not from an emotional one. Despite what anyone will say I am neither a member of the hate or love Perry fan club.

I wish you the best in all things.

Ryan Healy October 4, 2009

Hi Darren,

I agree: dropping 100K followers is a bit strange. But don’t think it was done because of a voluntary retirement. As Salty Droid says (and Mike Young alluded to), Perry had to comply with the terms of his parole or face the consequences.

Are there any news on our man Perry?

he is back at least on Twitter but not sure if that is him

Hi Darren,

The lure of making money and living a grand life is centuries old. I’m not one to sit in judgement of Perry Belcher as I do not have all the facts. Yet, we as individuals or entrepreneurs seeking to create and unleash our dreams must be remind ourselves that it is possible to have purpose, passion and profits in a business, IF we first seek to serve the needs of others and not serving our own money needs.

A life with peace and prosperity can be achieved without having to create “smoke and mirrors”, otherwise we lose our soul in the process.
