Music Business 2.0 is HERE!!

1. The Record Deal Is Dead. Record companies are only looking at artist with track records. No deal in signing anything. Do it yourself or you really don’t want the dream. Hard comment? Yes. Real comment? yes.

2. The Music Demo is Dead. Used to be you made a demo to get “signed” well if getting “signed is dead then the demo died with it. Too many demos not enough DEMOnstrations of clarity.

3. Soundscan is Dead (or almost). Soundscan for independent artists shows sales…. or does it?! I wont go into the tricks around that. The point is to independent artists it is dead. Why show proof to an organization if you have pay pal or digital proof? Or Show proof at your stores

4. Record Promotions to Radio (independently) is Dead. The scene has become tougher where the pop people are being cut off where most had opportunities. So what does that mean for you the independent artists or label?

5. Pushing your Product to Brick and Mortar Retailers is Dead (or almost) In the late 90′s to early part of this century independent retailers had a chance before almost any music entity to make money selling music on the web…. most didn’t take the opportunity.

So invasion force one into their sales were the WalMarts and Best Buys in the USA.

But invasion force two is not Itunes and Amazon and PayPal who allow artists more independence. With the exception of a few key stores (less than 20) I would stick to the web.

6. Being a “Star” is Dead! If you are in the game for the flash you are about to get pimped faster than an drug addicted teenage school girl in Vegas. Rough comment? Yes. And its an even rougher business. Dont say someone didn’t warn you.

7. Listening Parties are Dead. Why come out to an event that seldom has the artists and that everyone is doing? Is it to hear music you can hear from the comfort of your own home? No.

So whats Alive? I will post that to follow!
